Bethany Lutheran had its beginnings when a small group of settlers met to organize the First Scandinavian Evangelical Lutheran Church of Muck in October of 1898. They purchased an 18-acre tract of land and had a church completed in the fall of 1900. The church was dedicated June 8, 1902.
